Celebrates 99th Year of service to the Printing Industry in Pune on 19th May 2018 at Yeshwantrao Chavan Natyagriha, Kothrud Pune.

The Poona Press Owners Association Ltd. off flagged its Centenary Year Celebrations with a Bang.

The Poona Press Owners Association Ltd. was founded on May 19th, 1919 by a group of objective oriented and ambitious printers. What started out as a small association by reputed presses like Aryabhushan Press, Chitrashala Press, Kesari Press and others joining hands with Baburao Sahasrabuddhe of Balodyan Press, Celebrates 99 years of its glorious existence. The Poona Press Owners Association Ltd. was registered under the Companies Act in 1952. The Association was formed to counter a large number of problems plaquing the printing industry – excessive competition, pay hikes, etc. The main objective was to make the printing fraternity tech savvy and impart printing education and research. The vision of the founding fathers in starting this association which is now entering its 100th year of service to the Print Industry in Pune and surroundings, shows in the progress made by the industry in Pune.

The Associations activities are organized under 5 sub-committees

1. Mudran Sahitya Bhandar - (cooperative stores)

2. Vaastu Samiti - (Looks after the 2 buildings of the Association)

3. Mudran Prakash – Publishes the House magazine since last 80 years

4. Educational Committee – organizes seminars and visits to industry-oriented companies

5. Library and Publications committee - looks after the library of the Association and publishes books related to printing.

The 99th Anniversary Program me on 19th May 2019 was graced by the Presence of Guardian Hon. Minister Shri Girishji Bapat, and other dignitaries -- Mr. Kotaro Yoshida San. Toyo Inks India Pvt. Ltd., Mr. Dev Nair, Past President of All India Federation of Master Printers was the Guest of Honour Mr. Arvind Mardikar, Hon. General Secretary All India Federation of Master Printers. Mr. Balasaheb Ambekar President of Maharashtra Mudran Parishad.

Mr. Raveendra Joshi President PPOA narrated about the unique project of Bulk buying and selling of material like inks at discounted rates and passing on this benefit to the members.

This is the only Module in the entire country along with Toyo Ink India Pvt. Ltd. Ink manufacturing company since last 11 years. We have recently renewed the agreement with Toyo Ink India Pvt. Ltd. for a further period of 3 years till 2021.

We are promoters of the All India Federation of Master Printers and Maharashtra Mudran Parishad As our social obligation we helped Flood affected printers and those affected by other calamities. Helped those affected printers in other states due to natural calamities.

The highlight of the evening was the presentation of “Lifetime achievement Award” to Mr. Vasantrao Gadgil for his untiring services to the industry over the last 70 years. In his typical style Mr. Gadgil gave thanks in Sanskrit. He said that Printing is an Art - the letter (character) on which it is based. In the Printing field – reading, publication, editing is all based on “characters”.

Thereafter successful Women entrepreneurs were felicitated as per our custom since last few years. Those felicitated were – Ms. Jhanvi Dhariwal of JRD Print Pack P. Ltd, Ms. Aslita Kalaskar of Bits & Bytes, Ms. Kalpana Phadtare of Vihan Enterprises, Ms. Bhakti Gogawale of Bhakti Printers and Binders, Ms. Vrunda Khurjekar of Shri Trimurti Mudrika Printers, were awarded the “Yashashvini” puraskar.

The evening was preceded and followed by an excellent musical program by Amar Oak and his team – AMAR BANSI. This was a program of music where the main artist was Amar Oak and his Bansi. The crowd was enthralled by his rendition of various musical numbers and requests from the people in the Auditorium.

The People who attended were treated to a simple and sumptuous meal to end the evening

Mr. Raveendra Joshi, President PPOA welcomed the guests and gave a brief idea of the proposed programs to mark this year. It is going to be a very interesting and fun filled year ahead, not just a fun and frolic but also educative.

4. Development of Printing Cluster

5. To start development of Printing Museum

6. All India Printers cup Badminton Competition

8. Publication of History of Poona Press Owners Association and Printing Industry from 1919 to 2019

9. Health checkup camp for press employees

Hon. Mr. Girish Bapat, Guardian Minister, in his speech said that in early times before print, communication was very difficult and was done through pictorial writing and writing on stone slabs, Papyrus etc. We have since advanced to the present state of technology. As long as people read – printing will survive and will progress effectively.
